Classes

exerciseWe offer classes in art, line dancing, yoga, exercise, and Spanish. We also have groups that get together each week to play Bingo, Bunco, Pinochle and Bridge, and to knit. We request a donation of $3 per class session for most classes.

Exercise

Walking Group: The group meets three times a week at the River Park Parking Area, near the Cemetery, by the First Street Bridge. Participants leave promptly at 8:15 a.m. (They won’t wait!) Their brisk walk along the river covers 2 miles round trip. They’re usually back in the parking lot by 9:30 a.m.

Yoga Classes: The center offers four Yoga classes every week Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Monday is Gentle Yoga, Tuesday is Gentle Yoga, Wednesday is Strength & Balance Yoga and Thursday is Yoga for All Levels. On the second Monday of the month, Restorative Yoga.

All classes are based on self-determination: each student decides what positions to attempt and for how long. (Some sit in chairs) Individual attention from the instructor is available. Each class concludes with 10 minutes of shrivasina, when students lie on their mats and mediate to soothing music.

Students should wear comfortable clothing they can move around in. Mats are available at the center. A donation of $3 per class is requested.

Exercise – continued

Tai Chi: Mondays 10:10 – 11:10 am Instructor Janet Seaforth combines Qigong and Tai Chi, emphasizing the internal energy flow. The purpose of this class is to improve balance, vitality and well-being. The class involves much repetition of movements. The instructor is patient about working with everyone to make students comfortable learning at their own pace. You can join this class at any time. Donation $5

Line Dancing: Tuesdays 10:15 am – 11:45 am. Join in the fun and let’s get moving! Studies show dancing can help you lose weight, stay flexible, reduce stress, improve muscle strength and the condition of your heart—all this while having fun!

Meditation Circle Tuesdays from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Meditation can reduce stress and improve concentration. Enjoy an hour of relaxation for just a $3 donation per person.

Arts and Crafts

Watercolors: Lynn McChristian teaches her watercolor class each week on Thursdays from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and will continue each week until the winter holidays. There is a small weekly fee that is used to provide the students with watercolor paper for each project including pattern/instructions. Please bring your brushes, a pallet with paint, water container and paper towels. Some knowledge of watercolor painting will be helpful. This class fills up quickly; please call the Senior Center to be added to the waiting list.

Nimblefingers: Participants sit on comfortable couches and work at their own pace on individual handicraft projects. No leader, no pressure — just skillful needlework and lively conversation!

In an encouraging environment, explore textures, color mixing, shadowing, and more using the dynamic and versatile medium of watercolor pencils. This SRJC Older Adults Program is FREE!

Foreign Languages

Spanish: SRJC Older Americans Program brings Beginning Spanish to the Cloverdale Senior Center on Mondays from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm. Instructor Bill Churchill incorporates music and fun in this interactive educational experience. This class is free to Senior Center Members.

Advanced Spanish: is a student led group that meets on Mondays from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.

Discussion Groups

Women’s Group: This leaderless group meets weekly to discuss anything and everything. Participants bring their own topics; the result is a lively exchange of information that is as educational as it is entertaining.

Computer

Our Computer Lab is open to members every day from 10:00-2:30. We have fast Wifi throughout the building; check with Melanie or Front Desk Receptionist for the password.
